Definition
Threat is an expression of deep intention to give injury or to punish someone. Receiving threat from someone in any kind of way or manner is an indication of deep grudge from the one who gave it causing your life to be at stake. It is a form of putting the judgment at one’s hand and committing such could cause into serious punishment or penalty.
Punishment/Penalty
People may not know that threatening any person could result into serious charges which might put the person who threaten into jail if found guilty. There are cases when the threat is not that heavy hence the person being accused and found guilty could just ask for apology after paying the government to release himself. However, there are instances when the threat is too heavy causing it to file charges and if found guilty one could be put to jail for years. Under the Connecticut Penal code, terrorizing group of people could be considered as first degree of threat on the other hand threatening a person with harm is a second degree. The penalty or punishment could be dependent on how heavy the threat has been made to a certain person or to group of people.
Types
Threat are not equally made, there are threats that are made out of spoken words, written or even symbolic. According to FBI, threats are divided into four kinds and first of which is the so called direct threat. Direct threat is identified through a person doing specific act against another person directly and intentionally. There is also the so called indirect threat wherein one threatened a certain target unclearly and indistinguishable. Hence, he/she threats a person without clearly stating if he/she will do it or not. Veiled threat is another type of threat which threat one but can’t be identified as violent. Last type of threat is conditional which are usually been observed on extortion cases. For example, threatening one to do a certain act or else the person would suffer from consequences.
Level
Threat also has different levels starting from low to high one. Under low level of threat is to when one person experience being threatened but of minimal risk. It is usually unclearly stated by the person who mentioned such threat and there is inconsistency with information.
Under medium level of threat is that the threat could have the possibility of be carried out but could also have the possibility of not being carried out. This time it is more direct and concrete than low level. Moreover, there is a no firm sign of taking the threat for real.
Under high level of threat is the most direct, specific and conceivable threat. It indicates strong intention of doing such act and causing serious danger to one’s safety. Preparatory steps have already been putted to act like staking to a person or being followed for long time. For this level to be solved there must also be the presence of law enforcement and court.
